ABC’s Retail Operations is our largest division consisting of 365 retail ABC stores throughout Virginia. The Assistant Manager works closely with the Store Manager in all aspects of managing an ABC retail outlet. They exercise judgment and discretion independently and in conjunction with the Store Manager in the day-to-day operations of the store. Our Assistant Managers provide guidance, direction and development to the store’s team in order to achieve the overall mission of ABC in regards to Control, Service and Revenue. They will participate in all essential operational activities and assume full responsibility for store functions in the absence of the Store Manager. Incumbent will assist with managing the store’s staff which includes multi-level part time staff Lead and Sales Associates. They assist with staff responsibilities to include assigning specific duties and assignments, organizing and monitoring staff’s schedule and ensuring staff levels and coverage are properly maintained.

The Assistant Manager will provide oversight to all store associates in execution of daily tasks to maximize sales and provide training to staff on store products, proper customer service skills, and sales policies, procedures and standards and will be responsible for communicating and implementing, along with store management, any new policies and procedures. Additional duties involve participating in recruitment and selection of store’s associates and assisting store manager with evaluation of staff. Assistant Managers will provide oversight of day to day operational procedures and processes involved with the store’s operation. This includes investigating and resolving customer complaints, accounting for all store funds and assisting in completing required documentation, monitoring the store’s merchandising (such as layouts, promotions and displays), participating in store inventory accuracy and cycle counting program and assisting in overall inventory accuracy and management throughout the company, complying with all security/loss prevention policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with ABC policies in the checking of ID’s and general laws and compliance with the sale of alcohol in Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications


Qualified applicants must have working experience in providing oversight of both staff and operational procedures in a retail related operation. Applicants must have experience with managing staff to include delegation of work responsibilities, on going training and development techniques, performance management to include disciplinary action and recruitment and selection. Experience with providing and performing operational procedures within a retail related environment is required to include managing and developing customer service techniques, experience with cash accounting tasks, strong inventory and merchandising skills are needed at this location, monitoring performance of subordinates and independently making decisions and problem solving. The incumbent should have positive communication skills and the ability to motivate staff.

Applicants must also possess knowledge and experience utilizing personal computers and electronic point of sales. The ability to communicate with customers and employees of ABC, both orally and in writing is crucial. Must be able to lift up to 65 lbs. Must be at least 21 years of age. Incumbents should be available to work with limited or no notice and work various shifts and weekly work schedules to include Saturday, Sunday, some holidays and inclement weather.
