Smithfield Associate Innovation Analyst in Smithfield, Virginia

The Associate Innovation Analyst will assist in the mining and analyzing of syndicated data from multiple streams to help identify Strategic Innovation Platforms. Forecasts the value of opportunities in the Innovation Pipeline. Communicates relevant and actionable insights to cross-functional team members, factory personnel, and co-packers as needed. The Associate Innovation Analyst will be involved in critical activities of projects stemming from Innovation Platforms such as Concept/Product/Market research and post launch audit activities.

Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

  1. Assists with the collection and interpretation of syndicated data from platforms such as IRI, Mintel, Technomics, and Nielsen.

  2. Analyzes white space or gaps in the market to potentially expand Smithfield’s portfolio reach across categories.

  3. Assists in the use of syndicated data integrated with consumer behavior to understand basic marketing fundamentals and determine opportunities to expand our business.

  4. Assists in competitive analysis including understanding positioning, pricing, and product attributes through reverse engineering.

  5. Assists with development and test experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods for product development including plant data and consumer research.

  6. Analyzes plant testing data to create capability driven product specifications.

  7. Assists with product audit process at 12, 24, and 52 weeks after launch.

  8. Stays current with food ingredients, processing technology and immerging consumer packaged goods trends.

  9. Represents Smithfield and our family of brands professionally at industry functions and conferences.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agribusiness, Statistics or related field and 1-3 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of college education and experience in lieu of college degree.

  • Understanding of syndicated consumer data and basic knowledge of custom product driven research, preferred.

  • Willingness to learn about consumer insights and help translate them into finished products. Demonstrated creativity and passion about ideation and new product development.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and knowledge of various statistical software packages.

  • Ability to uphold regulatory, company, and customer standards.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated multi-tasking and project management skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time and represent the company at conferences and product presentations.
