The Emergency Department Secretary is responsible for providing receptionist and secretarial services within the department. Assist in the efficient operation of the unit by relating to patients, families, staff, visitors and physicians in a cooperative manner. Requisition supplies, equipment and services from other departments. The secretary provides support to ensure efficient operation of the department and is responsible for collating charts and updating ED physicians of follow-up charting/incomplete charts.
Participates as a team member by performing additional assignments not directly related to the job description when workload requires.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Unit Secretary experience and medical terminology preferred.
Must be computer literate and have excellent organizational and customer service skills.
CPR certified or able to be CPR certified within 90 days of hire.
Must be tactful and diplomatic at all times.
Must be willing to accept responsibility and instructions.
Should be accurate and organized, flexible in dealings with other people.
Must demonstrate ability to properly use office supplies, telephone, computer, and photocopier.
