Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Tunnel Fire Protection & Emergency Specialist for employment in the Norfolk, VA office. This is a part-time variable position, meaning work days and times will be determined on an as needed basis. Looking for a candidate that is a good listener, a solid communicator, with strong people skills. Need to be able to travel and to provide critical evaluation of procedures and policies. Needs demonstrated passion and ability to apply lessons learned both personally and from other agencies to improve responses by clients to improve safety.

Candidate must bring strong background and experience in all aspects of Incident Management, Emergency Response, and Fire Life Safety Systems, and Emergency Operations Planning for major highway tunnel systems.

Working closely with the AECOM Tunnel Practice leaders and staff to provide consulting services to tunnel owners and operators.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing Emergency Response Plans and providing recommendations and comments

  • Participating in Emergency Response drills and table top exercises

  • Reviewing post-incident reports and risk assessments

  • Sharing lessons learned and industry best practices with AECOM tunnel specialists and client staff

  • Participating in Fire Protection and Emergency Response training and workshops

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma

  • 10+ years experience in leadership position within a Fire Department or Emergency Response organization responsible for responding to and planning for tunnel fires and other major incidents.

  • Industry Technical group experience and leadership.

  • Demonstrated leadership in understanding and advancing the practice of preventing and responding to fires and other life threatening events in tunnels.

  • Hands on experience in inspecting and evaluating fire alarm, protection and suppression systems

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or equivalent

  • 15+ years of experience
