Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Install, maintain, diagnose and repair equipment related to the unloading, loading, transfer and storage of bulk cargo, including cranes, shiploaders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, forklifts, railcar movers and rail sidingESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES:

  • A position with broad assignment under periodic supervision. May be assigned to general duties in all areas of operations in the terminal.

  • The successful installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of rolling equipment, conveyance systems and related equipment.

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on rail siding

  • Maintain maintenance shop, parts inventory, documentation and records as required

  • Housekeeping and general maintenance as required

  • Upkeep of assigned equipment or tools

    Perform any other type of terminal function as trained and instructed by terminal supervision

Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • Three years of demonstrated work experience in the field of conveyor, heavy equipment and rail maintenance and/or operations

  • Must possess and be able to demonstrate mechanical aptitude

  • Must be able to demonstrate troubleshooting and repair skills

    Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in heavy equipment and vehicle repair and maintenanceCERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Certification in diesel repair and/or welding preferred

    Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC clearance or any other clearance as requiredCOMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to execute and maintain necessary records

  • Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions, including manufacturer's service specifications

  • Must be able to take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details and work cooperatively with others

  • Must be able to read directions and prints as well as to inspect machine parts closely to ensure they meet specifications

    Must be able to communicate, verbally and in writing, in EnglishPHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to use respiratory protective equipment as outlined in OSHA 1910.134

  • Must be able to use hand tools

  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work

  • Must be able to perform work requiring frequent stooping and bending

    Must be able to stand for protracted periods of timeWORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must be able and willing to respond to call out to perform maintenance duties

  • Work at heights up to 80 feet

  • Requires work in all types of weather conditions

  • Must be available to work all shifts and weekends

    Must be available to respond to call out as assigned on a 24/7 bsis
