Virginia State Government Environmental Health Technical Specialist (PNS 01626) in Newport News, Virginia
Serves as Environmental Health Technical Leader, Standardization Officer, mentor and subject matter expert as an advanced practitioner for the district Environmental Health Food Protection Program. Performs complex environmental health functions, provides consultation, training and standardization to Environmental Health staff, assist OEHS in conducting training and may provide formal input into performance evaluations of Environmental Health staff.
To be considered for positions at this level, employees must be a Standardized Environmental Health Specialist in the Food Protection Program. Successful candidate should be knowledgeable and skilled in interpreting and enforcing laws and regulations governing environmental health programs. The ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms both independently and as a team member is essential. Extensive knowledge of food and the prevention of foodborne outbreaks is expected. Basic computer skills are necessary to perform duties. The ability to analyze technical information and make recommendations to supervisory staff is required. The candidate must possess a valid driver’s license.
Prefer employee be certified as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP). Prefer a B.S. degree in science/environmental health and /or comparable knowledge, skills, experience, and abilities.
