External Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to directly support the Design supervisor with efforts related to SSN688 and VIRGINIA CLASS product development and configuration control.

Specifically the individual may be required to provide guidance to the group in the supervisor’s absence, lead a group of 2 to 6 individuals supporting VCS and or 688 CLASS Configuration Management efforts including but not limited to the design development and/or resolving technical issues for machinery systems and components using standard practices and procedures. This includes interfaces with vendors and/or other disciplines. Specific areas of responsibility include SSN688 and VCS Ship Alt drawings, Machinery Drawings, Engineering Reports, VIRs, and other emergent tasks.

The individual selected will need to possess excellent oral and written skills, be comfortable directing personnel of various Engineering and Design positions, and be proficient in SAP and PDM. In-depth experience in 688 CLASS Engine Room Arrangements, and Drawing development/checking is preferred . Additionally, this position requires a DoD SECRET level clearance and the ability to perform on site ship checking.

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
