System Architecture Engineer

Location: Langley AFB, VA

Qualis Corporation is seeking a Systems Architecture Engineer. This position is located at Langley AFB, Hampton, VA.

Responsibilities

The Systems Architecture Engineer will:

  • Translate CONOPS, Operational Architecture, and high level system requirements to lower level use cases and accompanying analysis and logical architecture.

  • Work with functional area subject matter experts to collect and describe operational and system processes, activities, associated inputs, controls, outputs, and mechanisms.

  • Collaborate with engineers to understand specific system requirements to select appropriate design solutions or ensure the compatibility of system components.

  • Establish architectural objectives and develop implementation architectures.

  • Establish system architectural design and functional requirements, including external and internal interface analysis, definition and requirement allocation.

  • Research, develop, document, and analyze architectures to identify mission capability gaps, overlaps, and shortfalls.

  • Prepare and publish formal architecture documents, produce architecture development plans and reports, to customers (e.g., white papers, briefings).

  • Identify architectural and technology risks with the potential to impact customer objectives; develops goals and plans to mitigate risks.

  • Monitor and track the architecture progress and metrics, plan and execute architecture peer reviews, and work closely with stakeholders to close out any open issues.

  • Identify hardware and software architectural needs and solutions.

  • Design protocols applicable to assigned projects and system needs.

  • Adheres to configuration management and documentation practices.

  • Establish project development practices to achieve reliable results.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science; Engineering; or related discipline or 10 years of relevant and equivalent work experience required.

  • Experience working within the DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) Version 2 - full spectrum of views required.

  • Must have knowledge and experience with one of the following tools: Rational System Architect, Sparx, Magic Draw, Visio or Equivalent.

  • Must have knowledge of Joint and Air Force organizations and processes.

  • Background and experience with Nuclear command and control procedures, processes and Systems preferred.

  • Knowledge of USSTRATCOM Mission, roles and responsibilities preferred.

  • Experience implementing open standards systems.

  • Expert knowledge of Model Based systems engineering principles, methods, tools and techniques along with knowledge of the associated hardware, software, and equipment are important.

  • Knowledge of Capability Based Architectures.

  • Must have the ability to quickly understand the customers- overall technical objectives and mission and provide effective solutions.

  • Candidate must exemplify a dedication to achieving the mission of the customer as well as high standards of quality and excellence in performing the duties.

  • Possess strong communication, problem-solving, relationship and consensus-building skills and a high degree of personal initiative and attention to detail.

  • Must possess analytical and problem solving skills with experience in preparing analytical and technical reports.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and perform assigned tasks with minimal guidance. Superior multi-tasking skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented and dynamic environment.

  • Must be able to work effectively alone, unsupervised, or within a group.

  • Recent experience within DoD is highly desired.

  • Proficient with MS Office software (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Access, Visio) and intermediate Excel skills.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Security Clearance

  • Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret Clearance is required.

Travel

  • Travel Requirement: 10%
