Utility Helper


Jacobs has partnered with NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years. While the majority of work is directly in support of LaRC, other industry partners and Government agencies may be supported at remote sites as directed by the Contracting Officer (CO). The Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract comprises of three major categories of work – operations, maintenance, and engineering (OME). A brief description of each category is: Maintenance – Research and institutional facility maintenance includes, but not limited to, preventive maintenance, trouble calls, repairs, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Facility Condition Assessment (FCA), and maintenance/operation of central utilities (e.g., electrical power distribution, potable water, storm water drainage)

  • Operations – Facilities Operations support includes, but not limited to, wind tunnels, laboratories, and test stands testing, instrumentation calibration/repair; plant and utilities (e.g., high pressure air, Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) and Steam Plant); technology development and administration, including, but not limited to, Facility Automation Systems (FAS) and Data Acquisition Systems (DAS)

  • Engineering – Facility engineering includes, but not limited to, engineering studies, design, construction, construction management, configuration management, tactical engineering, pressure system recertification, project management/planning support.


Acts as second person for safety and responds to associate safety incidents. Ensures the building exits are free from obstruction and notifies management concerning need for repairs to lighting. Perform cleaning, painting, and preservation. Assists with operations and maintenance of boilers, compressors and other equipment as directed. May align and secure systems and equipment under the direction of qualified personnel. Must qualify to safely perform minimum securing of equipment in the event the Operator is injured or incapacitated. Arranges boxes, materials, hand trucks or other industrial equipment in a neat and orderly manner. Perform other work as assigned such as second person for safety for fuel or nitrogen delivery.


U.S. Citizenship required. High School diploma or equivalent.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Industrial Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, high energy systems, operating equipment, operating boilers, fuel oil, and chemicals. (90%) May travel between various facilities, may assist facility maintenance staff, IOC Operators and Steam Plant Operators, confined spaces and potentially hazardous equipment operation. (40%)

Physical Requirements

Requires climbing, crawling, bending, and body mobility. (30%) Ability to distinguish basic colors, (10%) Vision corrected (100%) Lifting, carrying, exerting pressure-up to 45 lbs. (20%)

Equipment and Machines

Boilers, associated equipment, manlift, vacuum cleaner, hand tools, etc. (80%) Computer (10%) Fuel oil / Nitrogen truck (10%) Safety and personal protective equipment. (100%)


Regular attendance mandatory (100%) Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (<20%)

Other Essential Functions

U. S. Citizenship required.A valid driver's license is required.Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client.

CMOE maintenance employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
