Overview

This position is responsible for jointly supervising, along with the Transportation Supervisor, all or part of the transportation driver staff and coordinating their work activities for the assigned region. The incumbent will be responsible for creating daily transportation schedules, monitoring schedules to ensure internal drivers have a full day’s schedule and that member transports are accomplished in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner. They will be responsible for working with the Safety and Maintenance staff to schedule vehicle maintenance as needed. This position requires a complete understanding of the transportation process from member reservation to transport. They will work with the Transportation Supervisor and Manager to resolve transportation issues.

Member Operations

As a managed care organization, the areas within Member Services play a major role for our members. Our ability to enroll and then welcome our members, secure their information, answer questions, assign primary care Physician’s and provide transportation to and from appointments is critical to the health and lives of our members.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure coordination and implementation of timely, efficient and cost-effective transportation services for VPHP members by creating schedules for internal drivers and external vendors

  • Responsible for resolving real time transportation issues when contacted by members and engage in live communication between transportation providers and members to ensure real-time trip issues are resolved and all riders are successfully transported

  • Review, monitor and supervise the work activities of their direct report staff

  • Ensure coordination and implementation of timely, efficient and cost-effective transportation services for VPHP members by creating schedules for internal drivers and external vendors

  • Provide feedback for the development/revision of policies and procedures for VPHP transportation operations

  • Ensure direct reports receive in-service training on safety, driving techniques and customer service

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies/procedures

  • Collaborate with the Transportation Supervisor to complete performance reviews for assigned staff

  • Review/modify internal drivers’ schedules as needed

  • Research incidents involving drivers and recommend appropriate course of action to Transportation Managers

  • Log into Transportation hunt groups as needed

  • Perform all supervisory functions of Transportation dispatch as needed or in the absence of Transportation Supervisor

  • Provide direct supervision to drivers

  • Creates daily schedules and monitors driver performance

  • Schedule and negotiate with vendors to cover trips

  • Provide oversite of satellite offices

  • Assist in training of dispatch and driver team members

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent

  • College coursework in business, transportation, or management preferred

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS

  • Proven experience in Transportation or other operational area

  • Experience with scheduling/routing software preferred

  • Proven experience in research and investigation of facts

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks

  • Good organization skills and the ability to prioritize task

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Ability to read and write English fluently

WORK BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years supervisory experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position.
